Swarna Metals Zambia Limited (SMZL) is a purpose-built, greenfield hydrometallurgical copper extraction facility located
approximately 25 kilometres from Kitwe in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province. As a subsidiary of PLR Zambia Limited, SMZL is committed to
producing high-quality copper products using industry best practices in safety, environmental stewardship and process efficiency,
while generating sustainable economic value for local stakeholders.
Project Overview
Strategic Location: Zambia’s Copperbelt Province, near Kitwe — an established mining and logistics hub with
access to regional infrastructure and skilled workforce.
Milling Capacity: Commissioned initial milling capacity of 1,200 tons/day (TPD) of copper ore, with planned
phased expansion to 2,400 TPD.
Production Targets: Nameplate annual targets of approximately 12,000 metric tonnes of copper
concentrate and 2,400 metric tonnes of copper cathode, subject to feed grade and recovery performance.
Project Timeline: Construction commenced in April 2024; pre-commissioning and plant trials began in
June 2025; first commercial copper concentrate was produced in October 2025.
